DSA Muncie Branch Statement of Recommendations for the 2026 Election
The DSA Muncie Branch recommends voting for Sara Guillion for Indiana State House in District 34 and Phil Gift for Indiana State House in District 35. Based on her campaign website, Guillion, a sitting Muncie City Councilor, has policy positions that the Branch supports, including overturning the state’s ban on reproductive care and protecting marginalized members of our community. Based on responses to a questionnaire, Gift, who worked as a registered nurse in the community prior to running, stated support on the Branch’s stance positions of lifting the ban on light rail development in Delaware County, transitioning Muncie’s School Board and Ball State University Board of Trustees into elected bodies, election reforms such as same day voter registration and ranked choice voting, and more.
The Branch also recommends voting for Ken Mace for County Commissioner in District 3 and Cody York and Michael Durall for County Council in Districts 1 and 4 respectively. All three candidates are supportive of a data center moratorium in Delaware County, Mace supports repealing the ordinance limiting solar panel usage for residential homes, and York and Durall support removing Automatic License Plate Readers, like Flock cameras, from the county.
Finally, the Branch would recommend voting “NO” to Public Question #1 that will be on the ballot. If passed, Indiana judges will be able to decide who is too unsafe to be released on bond. The wording is vague, and could easily be weaponized, including to punish speech and dissent against conservative powers in the state. Currently, only those charged with murder or treason may be held without bond. This ballot question does not provide more safety from extreme crime as declared by its authors.
Please be advised that the recommendation of the candidates listed and position on the ballot question is not an endorsement and does not commit resources, volunteer capacity, or other forms of organizational support that may be expected with a formal endorsement. In addition, while a recommended candidate might not call themselves or be a socialist, we believe, for reasons explained above, elements of their platform will materially benefit the working class of Muncie and Delaware County, or that a tactical vote for them is the best choice ahead of the general election.
Always remember: A better world is possible.
DSA Muncie Branch
