Since February 2021, the STAI campaign has canvassed tenants facing eviction in 4 counties: Marion, Johnson, Vigo, and Delaware. In Marion county alone, STAI has knocked on 350 doors to give tenants resources and persuade them to attend court. With the ending of the CDC moratorium and a new tenant advocacy program initiated by the Indianapolis city-county council and local legal organizations, STAI wishes to continue its work to empower tenants and connect them to local resources.
Moving forward, STAI aims to execute the campaign on the neighborhood level. Members will go out and canvass tenants within their neighborhood and/or nearby areas. After the initial meeting, members will make a call before the hearing and after the hearing. Upon building a rapport with tenants, members may ask if they would want to join our canvassing effort. One goal of this approach is to build power from the neighborhood level and encourage members to be more involved and caring towards their neighbors as socialists should be.
