DESCRIPTION:What is the DSA Convention? \n\nThe DSA Convention is the highest decision making body in DSA. Every two years\, chapters and at-large members elect Delegates to vote on resolutions\, make changes to DSA’s national bylaws and constitution\, and set the vision for the work that DSA will be doing for the following two years.\nThe 2023 Convention will run from the morning of Friday\, August 4 through the early afternoon of Sunday August 6. Delegates must arrive on Thursday\, because Friday will be a full day starting at 9 am.\n\nWhat happens at the Convention? \n\nA majority of the time spent at convention is voting on resolutions\, amendments\, and the platform.\nDelegates also attend plenaries\, breakout discussions\, and other programming.\nFinally\, Delegates have the opportunity to meet other members of DSA from across the country and spend time together outside of the Convention sessions during meals and social events.\n\nWho attends the Convention? \n\nDelegates are elected to attend the convention. Most Delegates are elected by their chapter’s membership. Others are elected by the at-large membership to represent members who are not currently in a chapter.\nChapters will also elect alternates in case their Delegates cannot make the Convention. Alternates have the opportunity to attend Convention\, but they do not vote unless they are filling in for a Delegate from their chapter.\n\nIf you are interested in attending the convention as a Delegate\, be sure to alert the Chapter leadership prior to the May 21\, 2023 General Membership meeting. If you are interested in attending as a non-delegate\, please reach out to contact@centralindsa.org before July 13\, 2023.
